More than 6,000 petroglyphs dating back over 40,000 years depict hunting scenes, boats, dances, and daily life of ancient peoples. Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2007, the site is one of the Caucasus's most important open-air archaeological museums. Particularly notable is the theory linking these carvings to those on Norway's Mount Gaaldhopiggen, championed by Thor Heyerdahl of Kon-Tiki fame, who visited the site. The area also features the 'Gaval Dash', a musical stone that produces sound when struck due to its unique mineral composition. The on-site museum building offers interactive exhibits for added context.
